Coffee-loving Concord residents will have the chance to sip a cortado at 3 Bicentennial Square with members of the Concord Police Department on Friday and ask officers questions about their work.
Between 9a.m. and 11a.m. on June 10, Concord police officers will mingle with the public at Brothers Cortado in an informal setting meant to spark conversations and enhance trust as part of the department’s strategy of “community policing.”
The United States Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services supports the national initiative, known as “coffee with a cop.”
“This is an opportunity for community members to come out, meet their officers, ask questions and bring concerns in a relaxed atmosphere,” Deputy Chief John Thomas said in a department press release. The casual event is meant to provide an opportunity for residents to get to know officers in a low-stakes interaction, as opposed to the emergencies or tense situations when the public usually encounters police.
A similar event was held at White Mountain Coffee in November. Questions about coffee with a cop can be directed to Officer Carl Notarangeli at cnotarangeli@concordpolice.com or (603) 225-8600.
